A sentence only needs a subject and a verb. Remember that bit from English class?  Yet this sentence almost always includes an object: I love fishing. I love New York. I love baby goats. Kinda devalues the verb a little.
 
I love you – that one feels pretty amazing. But when the object of that sentence refuses to be the subject, “I love you” can be the most painful sentence in the world.
 
But maybe love isn’t something that needs to be aimed at any target. Maybe it’s more like sunlight.
