The word "tao" can be translated as "road, path or way."
 
As it applies to philosophy of Taoism, this "way" refers to that unknowable, indescribable something that underlies everything. It's the rhythm of the universe that maintains balance and natural flow.
 
The very first principle of Taoism is that "the tao that can be told is not the true Tao." Which, when you think about it, is a pretty great way to start! "Look, we're gonna try to tell you how this whole thing works, but all we've got are the inadequate words humans made up, so don't expect too much."
 
Maybe that's how I should start talking about the merch in this store: "The tee shirt that can be spoken is not the true Tee Shirt."
